University is adding 5 majors
Abstract:
Materials science and engineering is on the cutting edge, he said (Jeff Wright, dean of the School of Engineering). It includes research areas such as nanotechnology, using machines that are versatile and efficient because of their tiny size.
A nanometer is one billionth of a meter. One million nanoparticles can fit on the head of pin.
(Ed.'s note: After "It includes research areas such as nanotechnology" ... well, they got one part right "A nanometer is one billionth of a meter." The next part "using machines... " is way outside the materials science area being funded, which has nothing to do with nanoscale machines, and "One million nanoparticles can fit on the head of pin" - given the range of sizes of nanoparticles, this is a silly metric, in the realm of "one nanometer is 1/10,000 the width of a human hair." Credit where credit is due: cudos to UofC@M for adding these new programs.)
