Molecular motor turned on by chemicals

Abstract:
Researchers at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands have created a molecular motor driven only by chemical energy. Half of the molecule rotates full circle with respect to the other half.

"Despite the fact that it is an extremely primitive system and far from any biological motor, these findings tell us that ultimately we will be able to build a useful chemically powered rotary motor." —Ben Feringa
