Firefly battery technology earns powerful backing
Abstract:
Firefly Energy, a Peoria developer of radically new lightweight, corrosion-resistant batteries for appliances and vehicles, will announce today that it is getting an energy-and-cash boost from Electrolux, the world's largest manufacturer of lawn equipment.
Kurt Kelley, a Cat scientist and now chief scientist at Firefly, came up with new ways to build batteries. "He never designed a battery before, so he didn't know what couldn't be done," Ovan said.
He said Kelley used carbon nanotechnology to coat positive grids, thereby slowing corrosion.
