Abstract:
Top European education programme in an emerging new field
The European Commission has recognised the European Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Master of Science course as an Erasmus Mundus Master. Participating in this course are Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands), Leiden University (The Netherlands), Leuven University (Belgium), Dresden University of Technology (Germany) and Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden). In the near future, France will also join the consortium.
All partners in this European consortium are active in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology and offer local educational programmes. These programmes will also remain in operation.
The Erasmus Mundus programme was designed to increase the attractiveness of European higher education to students from outside the EU. It supports European consortiums that offer joint higher education programmes in a number of fields. Over a period of five years, each selected consortium receives 86 full scholarships for talented students from outside the EU. The selected students attend classes at two of the participating universities, in order for them to become acquainted with more than one European country. Students who successfully finish the course will receive two master degree’s.
In total, 139 consortia competed for Erasmus Mundus support. This is the second round of the Erasmus Mundus programme. In the first round 19 courses were selected, in the second round 17 courses.
