Oregon pooling researchers to deepen knowledge, impact
Abstract:
Goran Jovanovic is among 70 faculty who make up the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute. The consortium of faculty at OSU, the University of Oregon and Portland State University is Oregon's first statewide effort to capitalize on the economic power of university research.
"If this university, or any university of our stature, is going to survive, we are going to have to find our way to the top of the world. The only way . . . is to concentrate this critical mass of people and ideas to create new, innovative things," Jovanovic says.
Their vision is to build on Oregon's strengths in micro- and nanotechnology to attract grants, discover breakthroughs, create jobs and lure top minds.
