Smaller and colder means stronger
Abstract:
It's long been recognized that the strength of metals can be increased by shrinking the grains of their crystalline mosaic structure to the nanoscale. But two US researchers have now found that nanocrystalline metals gain even more strength than expected at low temperatures.
