Abstract:
Quantum dots - nanoparticles of metallic or semiconducting materials - can serve as tiny light bulbs for tagging and tracking molecules and structures inside living cells, a useful procedure for studies in cell biology. The problem, however, is getting them inside. A team at the University of California at San Diego has now evaluated several methods for ferrying nanoparticles into cells, to identify the best candidate.
