Stripey copper template aligns organic nanowires

Abstract:
Researchers at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, and CEMES-CNRS, France, have made a nanotemplate for the directed growth of organic molecules. The template, which self-organizes, provides a high resolution. “The template is realized by chemisorbing molecular oxygen on a Cu(110) surface at high temperature,” said Flemming Besenbacher of the University of Aarhus. “In this way we have a lateral resolution of 2 nm with a periodicity of 5 nm - this resolution is far better than what is now accessible by means of standard lithographic techniques."
