Sony, Toshiba to push chip technology limits
Abstract:
Sony Corp. and Toshiba Corp. have agreed to expand their cooperation in the semiconductor field and develop technology for chips two generations past today's most advanced devices. The agreement calls for the companies to pool resources on development of technology for chips whose smallest features measure 45 nanometers across. Should the development succeed, the resulting chips could be significantly smaller, faster and consume less power than today's cutting-edge semiconductors, which have features as small as 90nm.
