Abstract:
Pollution caused by oily or tarry materials is widespread and hard to clean up. But a magic sponge of polymer nanoparticles could provide the answer. Leonard Lion of Cornell University and co-workers report that particles made of amphiphilic polyurethane chains can absorb polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) - common pollutants in soils and ground water - when mixed with contaminated sand.
