Water repellent also absorbs
Abstract:
Nano-carpet may guide liquid movement. A new material that can repel or absorb water could be used to guide flowing liquids. The coating, made from zinc oxide, is normally water-resistant - liquid droplets roll off when the surface is tilted. But when the material is exposed to ultraviolet light, it becomes water-absorbing. Droplets flatten into a smooth film and soak into the surface. After seven days in the dark, the material becomes repellent again.
