Peptide nanotubes control metal nanocrystals
Abstract:
Researchers at the City University of New York, US, have used peptide nanotubes as a template for growing copper nanocrystals. By adjusting the pH of the solution, the scientists were able to control the conformation of the peptide and tailor the diameter of the nanocrystals to between 10 and 30 nm. “Our biological technique allows one to tune the electronic properties of nanotubes in a simple process,” researcher Hiroshi Matsui told nanotechweb.org. “Since nature always produces morphology-controlled nanocrystals in living systems with high accuracy and reproducibility, this biological approach also has an advantage over synthetic methods.”
