Polymer chemistry: Plastic wrap for nanocircuits
Abstract:
As microelectronics gets smaller, the demands on insulating materials get ever tougher. At the nanometre scales envisaged for circuit components in the coming decade, the standard insulator of silicon technology - silicon dioxide - will become leaky, giving rise to crosstalk and device breakdown. Various alternative materials are being explored that have better insulating properties, providing lower dielectric constants.
