Metal-oxide nanowheels roll up into vesicles

Abstract:
Researchers from the University of Bielefeld, Germany, and Brookhaven National Laboratory, US, have discovered a new type of hollow spherical vesicle. The structure consists of self-assembled polyoxomolybdate anion nanowheels. “Until now these types of vesicles were only observed due to hydrophobic effects,” Achim Müller told nanotechweb.org. “Here it is just the reverse, as extremely pronounced hydrophilic surfaces are responsible.”
