Zap of Electricity Creates Fluid Situation for Liquid
Abstract:
Scientists say they have created a fluid one that responds to an electrical field by immediately turning as tough as hard plastic and which just as quickly -- within a few thousandths of a second -- turns back into liquid when the power is turned off. The new material, largely created by Sheng's co-worker Weijia Wen, is the latest to come out of the nascent field of nanotechnology, a hybrid discipline drawing on physics and engineering in which scientists build materials from small numbers of atoms.
