10-Year Road Map For Chips

Abstract:
Over the ten-year horizon, CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) - the technology used in most computer chips today - may be replaced with nanotechnology techniques. Research into nanowires, compatible with silicon technology, looks promising. "Once you get below the 100 nanometer mark, you're in the nanotechnology realm," says Linda Wilson, managing editor for the ITRS.
