Nanoparticles shine in Renaissance pottery
Abstract:
Physicists in Italy have found that the iridescent gold and red colours seen in pottery from the Renaissance period come from metal nanoparticles and copper ions embedded in the glaze on the surface of the objects. As well as adding to our knowledge of Renaissance art, the results could be important for the development of glass-based devices for optoelectronics applications.
