Yeast proteins build up nanowires
Abstract:
Scientists from the University of Chicago and the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, US, have made conducting nanowires based on a yeast protein template. The protein self-assembled into insulating fibres, and coating these fibres with gold and silver nanoparticles produced conducting nanowires of around 100 nm in diameter.
