Applied NanoMaterials Announces the World's First Commercial Nanotechnology-Based Solid Lubricant
New York, June 11, 2002.
Applied NanoMaterials, Inc., a provider of
nanotechnology products, today announced NanoLub - the world's first
commercial nanotechnology-based solid lubricant. NanoLub particles have a
structure of nested spheres that lubricate by rolling like miniature ball
bearings.
NanoLub is based on nanoparticles of inorganic compounds, which were
discovered by the Nanomaterials Synthesis Group at Weizmann Institute of
Science, Israel, headed by Professor Reshef Tenne.
"NanoLub brings a completely new dimension to the world of solid lubricants,
opening new horizons in tribology - the science of friction, wear and
lubrication," said Dr. Menachem Genut, President and CEO of Applied
NanoMaterials. Dr. Genut was a member of the Nanomaterials Synthesis Group
at the Weizmann Institute and co-discoverer of the novel nanoparticles. The
Chairman of the company is Mr. Aharon Feuerstein.
NanoLub dramatically reduces friction between moving parts and minimizes
wear, saves maintenance costs and greatly improves overall machine
performance. In addition, it reduces energy consumption and decreases air
pollution.
Applied NanoMaterials, in cooperation with the Tribology Laboratory of the
Holon Academic Institute of Technology, Israel, under the supervision of Dr.
Lev Rapoport, has developed a special impregnation technique that allows
bearing manufacturers to apply the nanoparticles during the manufacturing
process to produce self-lubricating components with very low friction
coefficients.
NanoLub can be used as a solid lubricant, as an additive to oil and grease
lubricants, thin filmcoating, and material for impregnating self-lubricating
parts.
Typical applications of NanoLub include maintenance free systems, such as
aerospace systems and medical applications, ultra-clean manufacturing
environments such as semiconductor fabs and in heavy load situations like
turbines in power plants, heavy equipment, machinery, and marine
applications.
