Instrumented Indentation Expert Addresses Trends with Industry Leaders: Leading nanoindentation expert hosts webinar discussing theory and practice of instrumented indentation

Oak Ridge, TN | Posted on July 14th, 2016

The webinar series is based on theory and practice of instrumental indentation. Jennifer Hay, senior applications engineer for Nanomechanics, Inc., presented the lecture to dozens of industry leaders from around the world. In her inaugural lecture, Ms. Hay explained how test and measurement relate to science, and gave an introduction to instrumented indentation. Then she took questions from attendees who wanted to know: Why do materials behave differently when confined to a small volume? How is instrumented indentation different from microhardness? What kinds of properties can be measured by instrumented indentation?

Jennifer Hay of Nanomechanics Inc. holds a masters’ degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston and has worked in the field of nanoindentation since 1996, advancing standardization and developing methodology for new applications. She presently serves as the vice-chair for the MEMS/Nanomechanics technical division of the Society of Experimental Mechanics. In addition to many publications, she has authored five invited journal articles on the theory and practice of instrumented indentation.

“Instrumented indentation, also called nanoindentation, has developed over the last three decades as the technique of choice for measuring the mechanical properties of thin films and other small volumes of material,” said John Swindeman, CEO at Nanomechanics Inc. “We are thrilled to offer our expertise in this dedicated monthly webinar series. Our goal for the introduction and continuation of our educational series, is to provide the most current information to our customers as well as those working in this field, and to enable them to engage with our team to ask questions on these topics.”

This exclusive webinar series is available by invitation only. To access the next webinar educational series, hosted by Nanomechanics Inc. on Wednesday, July 20 from 12 to 1 p.m. EST, email to request your invitation.
