Home > Press > ISO Approves 2 Int'l Nanotechnology-Related Standards Proposed by Iran
Abstract:
Two international standards proposed by the Islamic Republic of Iran to ISO were approved in the first stage of compilation process by the votes of 33 countries that are the main members of Nanotechnology Standardization Committee (ISO/TC229).
The first standard was compiled and sent to ISO by Nanotechnology Standard Technical Committee of Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC) in association with an Iranian enterprise that is active in the production of nanofilters. The title of the standard is as follows:
"Nano-enhanced air filter media using nanofibres -- Characteristics, performance and measurement methods"
Filters modified with nanofibers, including power plant filters, heavy and light vehicles filters and respiration nano-masks are being produced in the country since a few years ago. A new generation of filters was presented by using nanotechnology, and these filters are produced in the country at large quantity. There are also a few international companies that produce these types of filters.
Some properties and characteristics appear when a normal filter turns into nanofilter, and those properties need to be investigated. Therefore, this standard defines properties and characteristics of a nanofilter, and it explains how to measure them.
The other standard, entitled "Nanotechnologies -- Nanoclays -- Characteristics and Measurements" deals with the properties of nanoclay. The draft of the standard has been compiled by Nanotechnology Standard Technical Committee of Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council and an academic group. This standard presents the most important parameters and properties of nanoclay by taking into account its applications and also the measurement methods to measure the parameters.
The compilation of international standards in ISO is based on the agreement of countries that are members of the related technical committee. International standards are published in ISO in a period of about three years after passing different steps in the compilation of standards.
