Abstract:
The newly published edition of the Journal of the IEST features technical papers on contamination control and design, test, and evaluation topics, as well as the Otto Hamberg Award-winning paper from the 27th Aerospace Testing Seminar (ATS).
The October issue features the following technical papers:
"Evaluating Aerosol Aspiration Efficiency in Fast-moving Air"—examines the physical factors that govern the aspiration efficiency of an aerosol sampling probe in unidirectional moving air
"Evaluating Aerosol Transmission Efficiency in a Sampling System"—examines the physical factors that contribute to sampling errors in an aerosol sampling system consisting of a sampling probe and a sampling line
"Evaluation of Vibration References with Equivalent Kurtosis and Dissimilar Amplitude Probability Densities"—demonstrates the concern that a laboratory test using a specific auto spectral density (ASD) and a single kurtosis value may not yield fatigue results comparable to that of a measured event
"Minimum Input Trace for Multiple Input Multiple Output Linear Systems"—presents a method for a multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) vibration test where the specifications of the output (the control points) autospectra are available
"Laboratory Staff Evaluation Process"—presents a rigorous evaluation process for employee performance measurement that utilizes significant employee participation to address the issue of perceived inequity
"Highly Accelerated Life Test (HALT) Program at Space Systems Loral"—summarizes Space Systems Loral's initial experience with HALT, experience over time, and refinement of the traditional HALT process with emphasis on finding the operating limit margins before purposely searching for any failure limits

About IEST
Founded in 1953, IEST is an international not-for-profit technical society of engineers, scientists, and educators that serves its members and the industries they represent (simulating, testing, controlling, and teaching the environments of earth and space) through education and the development of recommended practices and standards.
IEST is an ANSI-accredited standards-developing organization; Secretariat of ISO/TC 209 Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments; Administrator of the ANSI-accredited US TAG to ISO/TC 209; and a founding member of the ANSI-accredited US TAG to ISO/TC 229 Nanotechnologies.
