Home > Press > Elliot Scientific boosts Cold Atom Science in the UK: Introducing laser products from Vescent Photonics
Abstract:
Elliot Scientific is pleased to announce that we are now able to offer laser products from Vescent Photonics to researchers in the UK and Ireland. Vescent Photonics is a technology driven organisation developing and manufacturing novel electro-optic, waveguide, and laser technologies.
Key research areas Vescent products are used in are:
. Magneto-Optical Traps (MOT) for laser-cooling of atoms
. Coherent atom sources
. Sensors for gravitometry and magnetometry
. Focused ion beams
. Ultrasensitive trace-isotope analysis
. Quantum computing and cryptography
The Vescent Photonics range includes:
. Narrow Linewidth Lasers
. Electro-optic and Optical Accessory Modules
. Precision Power Supplies, Controller, and Servo Modules
Narrow Linewidth Lasers
Vescent narrow linewidth CW lasers are constructed without moving parts or piezos, and with very short laser cavities. This unique combination provides the lasers with a large mode hop-free tuning range and immunity to vibration.
Unlike conventional external cavity diode lasers, Vescent lasers can be injection current tuned over many GHz, enabling high speed frequency agility and very fast servo control for locking. Consequently, as the servo feedback is both fast (many MHz which is > acoustic frequencies) and long range (many GHz of injection current tuning), the locks are especially robust against acoustic or vibration challenges.
Electro-optic and Optical Accessory Modules
Vescent optical and electro-optical modules are designed to provide rugged, vibration immune operation in a small foot print. The range includes modules for Spectroscopy, Heterodyning, Laser Scanning, and combined Pulsing, Intensity Control, and Optical Shuttering.
Innovative uses of liquid crystal and waveguide technologies provides functionality that was previously only realised mechanically. Vescent modules are designed to be mutually compatible, allowing the user to take advantage of Vescent's non-mechanical approach to design sophisticated AMO experiments in a uniquely small optics-table footprint.
