Abstract:
This is no ordinary waterproofing spray; NeverWet is a super hydrophobic coating that‚s the product of nanotechnology. It works by creating a near 180 degree contact surface (the contact angle of water on a surface is defined as the angle of the leading edge or a water droplet on the surface as measured from the center of the droplet).
NeverWet˙ is a revolutionary new way to repel water and other liquids. It started as a solution. Ross Technology needed to reduce corrosion on the steel products they were manufacturing. What began as a side project is now a rapidly expanding company ˆ Ross Nanotechnology. Videos on Vimeo, Facebook and NeverWet‚s website attest to NeverWet's amazing liquid repelling abilities. The videos show NeverWet repelling water, chocolate, syrup, cooking oil and more. NeverWet even prevents ice buildup and extends the life of electronics if they happen to come in contact with water.
This is no ordinary waterproofing spray; NeverWet is a super hydrophobic coating that's the product of nanotechnology. It works by creating a near 180 degree contact surface (the contact angle of water on a surface is defined as the angle of the leading edge or a water droplet on the surface as measured from the center of the droplet). A contact angle of 180 degrees basically means that water sits on a NeverWet surface in a perfect sphere, causing it to roll off immediately. In comparison, a freshly waxed car has a 90 degree contact angle, while an anti-sticking cooking pan has a 95 degree contact surface.
NeverWet doesn't just work with water. It's anti-corroding, anti-icing, anti-wetting, anti-bacterial and self-cleaning. The product took home the 2011 INPEX grand prize for best invention, among over 500 entries from around the world.
