The North Carolina-based Center of Innovation for Nanobiotechnology (COIN) announced today that they will host the first Nanomedicine Commercialization Workshop on March 29, 2011, at the Barnhardt Center, UNC-Charlotte.

COIN to Debut Nanomedicine Commercialization Workshop

Durham, NC | Posted on January 24th, 2011

The topic of the workshop will be "Actionable Strategies for Company Building & Moving to Market". This workshop is an add-on to the established North Carolina Nanotechnology Commercialization Conference, which is hosted by the North Carolina Department of Commerce, in partnership with the Charlotte Research Institute, the Small Business and Technology Development Center, and COIN.

One of the most difficult challenges for nanomedicine entrepreneurs is developing a successful, efficient strategy to reach the market. This half-day workshop will clarify business issues and provide an interactive forum to derive actionable growth strategies, covering the core competencies of business development, fundamentals of a successful market strategy, navigation of the legal and intellectual property landscape, and an approach for bringing in strategic investors. Registration begins at 9:00 A.M. with an early-bird breakfast. The workshop will take place from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Box lunches will be provided.

This workshop is intended for mid- to senior-level managers to help develop competency in core areas. The format will be highly interactive. Presentations by subject matter experts in each area will be followed by small breakout sessions called Critical Conversations led by the experts. This will provide the opportunity for robust discussions on participants' specific questions and where all involved may share experiences and inside knowledge.

At the completion of this workshop, the NCNCC will launch at 1:00 P.M. with an opening keynote, followed by parallel afternoon tracks. COIN will coordinate the afternoon nanobio track, alongside tracks of nanotech hot topics and networking "speed dating". COIN's track will feature a market update, a session on regulatory issues, a business development panel, and an introduction to several emerging nanobio companies. A gala drinks and dinner event will cap the first day for full-conference attendees. Registration for NCNCC is separate from COIN's Nanomedicine Workshop. his workshop was made possible in part by a grant from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and support of sponsors Ken Russell, CMG Partners, Foley & Lardner, and Poyner Spruill.

The cost to participants is $35 for early bird sign up and $50 regular registration. You can register online at coinatncncc.eventbrite.com, or contacting Clare Valcore at or (919) 680-2070.
