Abstract:
(An event) Featuring Dr. Mark Banaszak Holl, professor of Chemistry and Macromolecular Science and Engineering and Associate Vice President for Research at the University of Michigan.
Osteoporosis indicates that estrogen depletion causes changes in protein structure in addition to the loss of bone density. Data examining the D-Axial spacing as function of tissue type (bone, dentin, and tendon) will be presented.
Dr. Banaszak Holl is a member of the Programs in Applied Physics and Biophysics and has a long-standing research affiliation with the Michigan Nanotechnology Institute for Medicine and Biological Sciences. He received IBM Research Partnership Awards in 1997 and 1998; an Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship in 1999; and was elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2009. He was recently appointed to the advisory board for the American Chemical Society journal, "Organometallics."
