Will the public swallow nanofood?
Abstract:
Nanotechnology could have an impact on many areas of the food industry, including packaging, nutrient delivery and food quality, but it is too early to tell if it will be embraced by food companies and the general public.
The Institute of Food Technologists defines food science as "a discipline in which biology, physical sciences and engineering are used to study the nature of foods, the causes of their deterioration and the principles underlying food processing", and food technology as the "application of food science to the selection, preservation, processing, packaging, distribution and use of safe, nutritious and wholesome food"1. Traditional food science and technology has given us microwave meals, packaging that keeps food fresh for longer and more variety in our diets.
