Abstract:
A commentary in the July 9 issue of Nature cites the GoodNanoGuide, an online, community-driven wiki administered by the Rice University-based International Council on Nanotechnology (ICON), as an example of how nongovernmental initiatives are filling a need for information about the safe handling of nanomaterials.
The article by Andrew Maynard and David Rejeski of the Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars calls for more data sharing within and oversight of the burgeoning nanomaterial industry.

The GoodNanoGuide, introduced last month, is a practical tool for people who handle nanomaterials as well as an online repository of safety protocols. The beta version can be found at www.GoodNanoGuide.org.
