Russian TV Shows Nanotech Lab Working on Organic Light Diodes
Abstract:
Our TV sets could soon become alive, or almost alive. Moscow nanotechnology specialists have developed organic light diodes - these use dozens of times less energy and make it possible to create a wide-screen TV set with the thickness of only a few millimetres, which could be easily rolled up. Dmitriy Afanasev reports what to do with it.
Organic light diodes that are being created by the specialists of the Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry are using dozens of times less energy than non- organic ones, which are being used today. Their possible applications look more like science fiction rather than reality, for example a TV that is made on the basis of light diodes of this kind would simultaneously have a large screen and be compact - its thickness would be several millimetres. It would be sufficient to unroll the screen and watch, for example, the news.
