Gordon Research Conference on Composites
Abstract:
The next "Gordon Research Conference on Composites" is right around the corner. As always it will be held in Ventura, California. The meeting will be held from January 13th- 18th 2008.
Since the first meeting held in 1975 many scientists have attended the Gordon Research Conferences on Composites, and most will agree that attending such meeting was one of their best conference experiences. Gordon Research Conferences are unique as they include ample time for informal discussions among scientists, which is essential in an interdisciplinary subject like composites. Since entering the nano-era the composites research landscape has changed dramatically. Although the commercial success of nanocomposites so far has been limited it is clear that nanomaterials can offer significant advantages as they can serve as building blocks to create materials which are designed over multiple length-scales while at the same time adding functionality. The challenges we are facing to create such multi-scale multifunctional composites are numerous. They range from the need to understand composite materials at different length-scales by the use of biomimetics and the development of new design and manufacturing techniques that allow for the creation of such materials.
