Korean scientists develop nanomaterial that can find, treat cancer growth
Abstract:
Korean scientists said on Sunday (Nov. 18) that they have developed a nanomaterial that can simultaneously find and suppress cancer growth.
The Yonsei University team, jointly led by professors Huh Yong-min, Suh Jin-suk and Haam Seung-joo, said they have made a "multi-functional" material that uses the Herceptin antibody.
Herceptin is the commercial name for Trastuzumabor, a monoclonal antibody widely used to treat breast cancer.
The scientists said the "magnetic-nano material" is made of oxidized steel and Herceptin, and was created by utilizing the latest advances in nanotechnology. It is capable of carrying other anti-cancer drugs.
