CMU gets Intel tech demonstration

Abstract:
The Claytronics Project melds robotics, nanotechnology and computer programming with the goal of eventually having a "pool" of tiny spherical computers that can be directed to form a model of any object -- from a car to an elephant.

Right now, the technology exists only in concept -- and animated videos -- but optimistic computer scientists say they believe it could be reality within a decade.

"I'm a big believer," said Seth Goldstein, an associate professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon. "I think that with the right investment of time and money, we could have this in five or six years."
