Molecular Foundry at Berkeley lab gets LEED gold
Abstract:
The Molecular Foundry, a new nanotechnology research building at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, has been awarded gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The council granted the building gold certification under its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, program. The foundry is the first building in the city of Berkeley to win the gold level of certification, the second highest possible in the program.
The building, designed by the San Francisco office of SmithGroup, uses 28 percent less energy than required under state building codes. Rudolph and Sletten General Contractors built it.
