Crewe, UK | Posted on September 27th, 2007

More than 700 of the North West's business elite gathered together at the IoD North West Director of the Year Awards where Dr Simon Carrington of Farfield Scientific Ltd. won the coveted Institute of Directors title "International Business Director of the Year". Simon's award was presented by Clive Drinkwater, Director of UKTI.

Sir Trevor McDonald OBE hosted the awards at the City of Manchester Stadium. Speeches were also given by Miles Templeman, Director General of the IoD and Brian Colquhoun, Regional Director of Yorkshire Bank.

The ceremony recognised the most dynamic individuals who have used their expertise and experience to develop their company, community and industry. Finalists were narrowed down from a record 180 nominations. Laura Wolfe, North West Regional Director for the IoD, commented: "We have received a phenomenally large number of nominations this year and the caliber across the North West has been exceptionally high. This year's number of nominations was the largest we have ever had and every individual was of an exceptionally high standard. The winners and finalists are all well deserved".

Farfield's, CEO Gerry Ronan commented, "We are absolutely delighted for Simon to have been singled out in such a prestigious manner. Simon has championed our expansion abroad and it is immensely gratifying to see his achievements acknowledged by the Institute of Directors. The fact that Simon was selected from such an outstanding collection of nominees is truly noteworthy and we at Farfield are rightly very proud of his achievement."
