Abstract:
Noted futurist and technology commercialization expert to be featured speaker at prestigious international conference; topic of presentation will focus on how profound advances in the converging disciplines of nanotech, biotech, chemistry and printed electronics are driving innovation in biomedical devices.
Pragmaxis LLC, a Dallas-based business strategy and technology commercialization consulting firm, announced today that its founder and managing director Peter Balbus will be a featured speaker at the nanoTX'07 conference being held October 2-4, 2007 in Dallas, TX.
Balbus' presentation is titled "How Printed and Thin Film Electronics Technologies Will Drive Innovation in Biomedical Devices". He will emphasize where the current state of commercializeable technology is and where specific investable opportunities are likely to emerge over the next 2-5 years. He will also highlight how the convergence of formerly disparate disciplines including nanotech, biotech, physical chemistry, enzymes, materials science, ink-jet printing, genetics and information technology is driving real innovation in biomedical devices.
Balbus is a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in chemical engineering and has completed executive programs in strategy and finance at the University of Chicago. He has over 25 years of business strategy and technology commercialization experience. In addition to his paid consulting work he also donates time to non-profit organizations, most recently serving as Chapter Chair and President of the MIT Enterprise Forum of Chicago.
Balbus recently completed a major engagement with the Nanotech Institute at the University of Texas/Dallas where he assisted senior administration officers and scientists in defining technology commercialization strategy and policy. He also was actively involved in technology transfer and commercialization process development and negotiated licensing agreements with several external ventures on behalf of the university.
He is currently working with an active clientele that comprises a dynamic mix of executives and senior technologists in Fortune 500 corporations, privately-backed venture start-ups and research organizations.
In addition to his participation as a featured speaker at nanoTX'07, Balbus has also been appointed as the conference's Director of Grants & Awards, a volunteer position whose responsibilities include serving as emcee and host of an awards ceremony during nanoTX'07 and providing a point of contact for media relations. This role emphasizes the position of nanoTX'07 as the world's most watched nanotechnology event and a unique platform for other organizations to announce their grants and awards to audiences and media channels globally.
Organizations wishing to make global announcements of their own grants and awards programs are encouraged to contact nanoTX with their proposals. A selected few partners will be chosen to participate in the awards ceremonies at nanoTX'07 based on a combination of their alignment with the nanoTX'07 mission and the strength of their proposals.
