Event explores big impact of small technologies

Abstract:
Business leaders from Vancouver and across the West are in Portland this week for the annual Micro Nano Breakthrough Conference, a regional exploration of the science and business of very small things.

"Nanotechnology is really a fundamental technology that is going to impact everything," bringing both incremental and revolutionary changes to a number of fields, said event speaker Ted Bernhard, an attorney with Stoel Rives LLP and member of that firm's Technology Ventures Group.

The science of manipulating the individual atoms that make up the world around us, nanotechnology today has found applications in solar cells, computer chip design, cancer treatment, energy production, water purification and other fields.
