Abstract:
Nanotech Northern Europe, international nanotechnology conference, exhibition and tech transfer event, takes place 23-25 September, 2008 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
(Nano Science and Technology Institute) September 10, 2007 -- The region's largest nanotechnology event, Nanotech Northern Europe (www.nanotech.net), focuses on the intersections between research and industry in nanotechnology. After three successful years in Finland, the event moves to Copenhagen's Bella Center on 23-25 September, 2008.
Nanotech Northern Europe brings together the field's top scientists and leading international companies in order to advance the beneficial use of nanotechnology. Keynote speakers at past events include respected scientists such as Nobel Laureate Alan J. Heeger and Millennium Technology Prize Winner Shuji Nakamura; speakers from companies such as Nokia, DuPont, Bayer, BASF, and Intel; and high-level EU representatives including Commissioner Janez Potocnik.
The 2008 event is organised by a comprehensive consortium of partners, including the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation (DASTI), the Danish Advanced Technology Foundation, the Nano-Science Center at the University of Copenhagen, and the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) at the University of Aarhus and Aalborg University. Nanotech Northern Europe also welcomes back Nokia as an event partner for the fourth year in succession.
"We're pleased to be supporting Nanotech Northern Europe," commented Hanne Haarup Thomsen of DASTI. "We believe that the event will strengthen international collaboration in nanotechnology research and innovation, and showcase Danish expertise in this area."
"Nanotech Northern Europe is a great opportunity to bring the world leaders in nanotechnology to Denmark," remarks iNANO's director, Professor Flemming Besenbacher. "The event will contribute to the development of nanotechnology and its successful transfer to industry," adds Professor Thomas Bjørnholm, director of University of Copenhagen's Nano-Science Center.
The 2008 event covers three application areas: Energy and Environment, ICT, and Nanobiotechnology and Nanomedicine. The conference will feature work ranging from the latest scientific breakthroughs to industrial uses of nanotechnology, whilst technology transfer sessions will offer opportunities for start-ups and universities to market their technologies. The exhibition will demonstrate developments in nanotechnology-based products, tools and other services
Nanotech Northern Europe 2008 takes place at Copenhagen's Bella Center in parallel with two other exhibitions, ScanLab and BioTech Forum. The 2007 event in Helsinki was attended by 600 experts from 32 countries, and over 80 companies and research institutes participated in the exhibition.
The lead organizer of Nanotech Northern Europe is Spinverse, a consulting and seed capital company focusing on the commercialisation of emerging technologies.
