Abstract:
Experts in the field of industrial biotechnology and bioenergy from across the globe will participate in the Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy. Hosted by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), the State of Hawaii, and the American Chemical Society, the meeting will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii, November 14-16, 2007.
"The Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy draws thought leaders from around the world to discuss important and timely issues that will form the future of the industry," said Jim Greenwood, president and CEO of BIO.
The program will include sessions on the latest developments in industrial biotechnology, including all forms of bioenergy production, biobased products and chemicals, food ingredients and fragrances, novel applications and nanotechnology, and marine biotechnology and bioprospecting.
A sampling of the daily panel sessions includes:
Wednesday, November 14: Synthetic Biology for Bioenergy - with panelists Eric Mathur, Synthetic Genomics, Inc.; Jack Newman, Ph.D., Amyris Biotechnologies, Inc.; Stephen del Cardayre, LS9 Inc.; Brian Baynes, Codon Devices, Inc.
Thursday, November 15: Economic Viability of Biochemicals Production - with panelists Sylvio Ortega Filho, PHB Industrial S/A; Greg Bohlmann, SRI Consulting; Jeffrey Miano, Novozymes North America, Inc.; Ross MacLachlan, Lignol Energy Corporation
Thursday, November 15: New Approaches to Bioethanol Production - James Zhang, Mendel Biotechnology, Inc.; Jack Saddler, University of British Columbia; Susan Leschine, University of Massachusetts; E. Alan Kennett, Gay & Robinson Pacific West Energy
Friday, November 16: Advancing Biorefineries for Fuels and Chemicals Production from Renewable Sources - with panelists Charles Wyman, University of California, Riverside; Lonnie Ingram, University of Florida; and Mohammad Moniruzzaman, Ph.D., BioEnergy International, LLC.
