Manchester University to set up fund
Abstract:
Manchester University is setting up a £50m venture capital fund to invest in intellectual property in partnership with a commercial investment manager. It will be the latest in a growing group of specialist investment vehicles aimed at stimulating commercialisation of university research in Britain.
MTI Partners, a London-based investment manager, said Manchester had "a stunning portfolio of technology that we can't wait to get involved in". The university has a strong track record in materials science, with specialisations that include nanotechnology and high-performance fabrics. It also has an active commercialisation arm, University of Manchester Intellectual Property.
