Abstract:
Industry Veterans Bring Decades of Experience in Nanotechnology
NaturalNano, Inc. (OTCBB: NNAN) (FWB: N3N) (www.naturalnano.com), a developer of advanced nanocomposite materials and additive technologies, today announced the expansion of its growing roster of top-tier talent with the addition of two nanotechnology veterans.
Dr. Robert Daly joins NaturalNano as Polymer Research Director and Dr. Douglas Kelley joins as Chief Engineer. Both individuals are based at NaturalNano's corporate headquarters and research lab in Rochester, NY, where the Company anchors the University of Rochester's new Bio-Enterprise research center.
"We are fortunate to be in a position to attract such celebrated industry talent as we continue to focus on growing our business and accelerate our march toward product commercialization," said Cathy Fleischer, Ph.D., President and Chief Technology Officer of NaturalNano. "The additions of Dr. Daly and Dr. Kelley are critical elements as we continue to create and exploit nanocomposite technologies. Equally important, these are both newly created positions that speak to our progress and expanding opportunity."
Dr. Daly is concentrating his work on end-market applications and surface treatments of NaturalNano's proprietary turn-key additive, Pleximer™. He joins NaturalNano from Eastman Kodak, one of the world's leading nanotechnology patent holders, where he served as unit director for Kodak's Global Manufacturing Technology Organization. Daly holds 16 U.S. patents in the polymer field and brings more than 30 years of experience in a variety of science, research and product development positions. He holds a bachelor of science in chemistry from the University of Kansas and a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in Polymer Science.
Dr. Kelley is focused on the continued development of process applications for Pleximer, with an eye toward future uses such as filled tube applications. He has over 25 years' experience in process development and polymer extrusion; most recently Dr. Kelley led the ESTAR™ Process Group that was responsible for reducing waste and improving productivity in manufacturing processes. Kelley holds a master's in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Rochester.
"Many things attracted us to NaturalNano, but two really stand out in my mind," Daly said. "The first is the potential inherent in Pleximer and its numerous market-changing applications. The second is the number of talented researchers and industry minds that have signed on to help NaturalNano realize its goal of industry leadership."
Kelley added, "The ability to work with this team and on a project that has nearly limitless potential is what brought me to NaturalNano. I believe we are well positioned to leverage our technological advances, particularly in the little explored, but seemingly superior Halloysite nanotube (HNT™) sector of the nanocomposite market."
NaturalNano said it continues to execute on its development timeline for the Pleximer product and remains on the path toward initial commercialized product by year-end 2007. NaturalNano is working with its joint development partners to test and validate its Pleximer product for a number of industrial and consumer product applications. Pleximer is a Halloysite concentrate for polymers that makes them stronger and lighter, yet less expensive to process than other nanocomposite materials.
