New film for windows blocks heat, not view
Abstract:
The Prestige line of window films is transparent rather than dark or shiny, thanks to a manufacturing method that doesn't use metal.
The new method -- exclusive to the 3M lines -- is created through nanotechnology, using polyester materials more than 1,000 times smaller than the width of a hair. Although the window film contains hundreds of layers, it is less than the thickness of a Post-it Note.
The protection against ultraviolet light is so great that the film would be classified as having an SPF factor of 1,000, said Missy Hulette of Solar-Tex, a Columbus dealer for the 3M line.
