Abstract:
New Initiative Will Link Houston, Mexico/Latin America
Houston Technology Center (HTC) announced the launch of its new HTC-Americas initiative to position Houston as the gateway to the US for Mexican and Latin American technology companies.
The new program offers foreign companies access to HTC's acceleration program, including business guidance, entrepreneurial education and the vast HTC community of technology and business leaders, service providers and investors. In addition, HTC will offer these companies office space in its midtown facility.
"Our objective is for Houston to be the US market access point of choice for technology companies across Mexico and Latin America. As part of our effort to build Houston to be a leading global center of technology innovation and commercialization, HTC-Americas will help companies on both sides improve and expand their businesses and network of contacts, focusing on five key sectors: energy, information technology, life sciences, nanotechnology and NASA/aerospace technology," stated Walter Ulrich, President and CEO of Houston Technology Center.
Houston Technology Center has been working with key technology and economic development entities, government and corporate resources in both Houston and Mexico, to develop the program. Leading the effort is a committee, chaired by Carlos Lara, President, Lara & Associates, with members from Houston Technology Center and other supporting organizations.
"Leveraging Houston's proximity to many markets, both within the US and across borders, the program will create opportunities for US companies to work in cooperation with new technologies, businesses and investors from Mexico and Latin America," said Carlos Lara, Chairman of the HTC-Americas Committee. "The first phase of the program will target Mexican investors and companies, as well as introduce US companies to Mexico, a market highlighted by steady growth, economic and political stability and a rising demand for technologies that will help manage internal needs and assets in key sectors such as oil & gas and healthcare," he added.
Members of the HTC-Americas committee held official visits to Mexico City. Several Mexican companies are already working with the program and are utilizing the services offered by HTC, including its acceleration program and office space in its facility.
