Research points way to qubits on standard chips
Abstract:
An international team has devised a structure that shows quantum mechanical effects over greater than usual distances. The work could lead to quantum computing bits (qubits) on chips made by conventional semiconductor techniques.
"There is interest in finding solid-state qubits where a quantum mechanism is presented over a large distance," Professor Gabriel Aeppli of the London Centre for Nanotechnology told Electronics Weekly. "We don't want to rely on a single electron transistor where each experiment is a heroic struggle. We want something that can be handled by conventional electronics."
