Gene technology moves forward at Mirus Bio

Abstract:
Mirus later developed two methods for delivery intravenously via the veins, similar to administering an IV. Such a procedure can be done in 10 to 15 minutes, and is similar to giving blood, except that the material goes into the body rather than being withdrawn.

The first, "hydrodynamic intravascular injection," involves pressurized delivery of nucleic acids through the bloodstream to surrounding cells and tissues. This enables regional delivery to a limb or other targeted area of the body.

The second delivery platform involves nanoparticle formulations that are delivered via a standard IV injection -- no pressure is involved -- and can be targeted to specific tissues and cells without being limited to the area of injection.
