Officials to promote Marcy nanotech site
Abstract:
Mohawk Valley EDGE officials are heading west to take part in a trade show that will help them spotlight a Marcy site they say is ripe for a nanotechnology firm.
It's the latest effort to market the 300-acre site on the campus of SUNYIT that came close to becoming the home of a computer chip manufacturer last year. Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Advanced Micro Devices' chose Saratoga County's Luther Forest over the Marcy site for its $3.2 billion computer chip site in June 2006.
The near miss gave the site a much higher profile in the industry, economic development and government officials say. It's a status that EDGE officials hope to burnish at the SEMICON West trade show in San Francisco next week.
EDGE will go as a member of NY Loves Nanotech, a group of economic development groups and companies led by the Center for Economic Growth in Albany and established to market New York as a nanotechnology hub.
