Editorial: Innovation is Oregon's hope; invest in it
Abstract:
Here's how it could pay off: The established project among the six is ONAMI, the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute. Since the Legislature created it in 2003, this study of the science of tiny things has generated 10 federal dollars for every state dollar invested in research.
No investment is guaranteed, as the stockbrokers' ads always say. But Oregon must take some chances or its economy will get buffeted forever. We'll constantly scrounge to fund needed services.
