King Faisal International Prizes for 2007
Abstract:
Prof. James Fraser Stoddart, a British professor of NanoSystems Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles, was awarded the Prize for Science. Stoddard has developed a new field in chemistry dealing with nanoscience and has changed dramatically the way chemists think about molecular systems.
The prize for each of the five categories includes a certificate summarizing the laureate's work, a commemorative gold medal, and a cash endowment of $200,000. Twelve past KFIP Laureates in Science and Medicine have gone on to receive the Nobel Prize, including Egyptian-born American Ahmed Zewail, who received the KFIP for Chemistry in 1989 and the Nobel Prize in 1999. The nominations for the 2008 prizes close on April 1, 2007.
