Abstract:
Nomadic and remote communities around the world have been trying out a new fold-up portable light source developed using nanomaterials.
The solar-powered device, known as Portable Light, can provide 10 hours of bright light after just three hours in the Sun, says project leader Sheila Kennedy.
Early models were flat, flexible and could be folded up. Later models could also stand up or be made into bags.
Kennedy has recently returned from showing prototype lights to remote Australian Aboriginal communities.
