Abstract:
Shell Oil President to Explore Global Energy Challenges and Alternatives
Cleantech 2007 today announced that John Hofmeister, President of Shell Oil Company, will deliver a keynote speech at the conference. A conservation and alternative fuels advocate, Mr. Hofmeister will address these subjects and their role in the clean technology discussion. Founded with the unique mission of uniting the technology, business, and venture communities in spotlighting new research just coming out of the lab, Cleantech 2007, produced by TechConnect.org and collocated with the 10th annual Nanotech 2007 conference, will be held May 23-24, 2007 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
Over the past year Mr. Hofmeister has toured the country to talk about global energy challenges and alternatives to fossil fuels, key issues for the crude oil industry whose interest in energy efficiency and conservation was sparked by the dwindling supply of resources. In a recent interview, Mr. Hofmeister said, "We believe that by advocating a culture of conservation, we're going to the heart of the matter, which is the beliefs, the values and the behaviors of people when it comes to energy. Energy as we've seen in the last year, is at the end of the day, a scarce resource. Our call for culture change deals with technology and design. What technologies do we want to see use energy more efficiently?"
"The challenges of increasing America's energy supply are a major focus for oil companies, an important part of Mr. Hofmeister's message, and an obligatory element of any discussion on the future of fossil fuels and the development of energy efficient clean technologies," Matthew Laudon, PhD, Executive Director of TechConnect.org. "This conference is a platform for asking the tough questions and finding the creative answers."
Mr. Hofmeister is a member of the Department of Energy's new Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technical Advisory Committee and a member of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee and the Policy Committee of the American Petroleum Institute.
