Research by Lee may lead to advances in human health
Abstract:
A team of scientists on the Virginia Tech campus is conducting research with nanocrystals that could possibly lead to advancements in developing treatment for serious human illnesses such as vascular diseases and cancers.
YongWoo Lee, an assistant professor of molecular and cellular biology, along with a team of other researchers including assistant professor in the wood science and forest products Dr. Maren Roman, Ph.D. candidate Shuping Dong, and graduate student Anjali Hiran, are working toward these advancements.
Nanocrystals are particles with a crystalline structure that are measured in nanometers. Nanocrystals can be used various ways in technology due to many of their electrical and thermodynamic properties that show strong size dependence, and can therefore be controlled through careful manufacturing processes.
